Delilah Vale says the black diamond known as The Widow’s Tear has been stolen from her collection. It is worth a fortune, wrapped in myth, and tied to a curse that has followed it across generations.
The last man connected to the stone is Harland Vex.
By the time Frank finds him, Vex is already dead.
What starts as a missing diamond becomes something much darker: pawn shops, hotel rooms, hired muscle, a European collector, a murdered informant, and a woman whose tears may be just another part of the act.
In this city, curses do not need magic.
They just need desperate people willing to believe.

The Widow’s Tear
With The Widow’s Tear, I wanted to play with the idea of a cursed object without ever really needing to prove that the curse was real.
The diamond gives everyone something to blame. Every death, every bad decision, every act of desperation can be laid at the feet of this supposedly cursed stone. But the more I worked through the story, the more interesting question became whether the diamond was actually doing anything at all.
Maybe the real curse was simply what people believed about it.
That was what I wanted Frank to be confronted with. He’s a fairly practical man. He deals in bodies, evidence and people lying to his face. But here he’s dropped into a case where belief itself starts affecting the way people behave.
For me, the story became less about whether the Widow’s Tear was truly cursed and more about what people are capable of once they convince themselves that it is.
Sometimes the thing people fear most doesn’t need any power of its own.
We give it the power ourselves.
